Chasing Destiny by Eric Jerome Dickey

This is the book I've chosen for the first selection. I like EJD, his books usually make for good entertainment if nothing else. I am in a book club that meets once a month and this is our October Selection...why not kill two birds with one stone. I hope you enjoy it.

Black Expressions Review:
Billie’s a sexy, 30-something biker without a care in the world. She’s a loner, moving from job to job without any commitments, but when she discovers she’s pregnant, it’s one commitment she’s willing to make. But the night she tells her baby’s father, her still-married lover, Keith, of his impending fatherhood, he tells her that he’s planning to go back to his wife, Carmen, and teenage daughter, Destiny. Billie’s distraught over losing the man she loves and the idea of raising a baby alone, but now she’s also got to deal with somebody trying to kill her! Could it be crazed Carmen, whose obsession with her husband’s infidelity makes her willing to pay any price to get Billie out of the picture? Or Destiny—the emotionally scarred victim of a vicious street setup—who ultimately blames Billie for her parents lack of love and attention? What Billie doesn’t know is that the other players in this deadly game may not be the usual suspects. Now she’s got to use all her streets smarts to find out who’s trying to run her off the road of life—for good.

I am EXCITED about this. I've never been apart of a bookclub before, my ex boyfriends mother was always in book clubs and I read along with her I just never went to the meetings!

For one, I LOVE EJD, I swear I have everybook but between going to school and working I've been slacking, I think I'm 3 books behind. I look forward to reading this book. When will we all meet up to discuss this?! I don't even know how these things work! Thanks again Keli!

Book club is a cool idea. Are you planning to meet offline? I'm trying to figure out what city (if any) this club is geared toward.

I am already a member of a bookclub in Austin TX. I think it would be a good idea to start a group in your local area.

Keli.. I ran to Hastings to buy the book and they only had it in "hardback".. uunfortunatley I'm on a College Students Budget and the book was $24.... that's like 189 packs of Ramen noodles!! BUT I will try to look for it cheaper online or in the library.. if all else I'll go to hastings and read .. it'll give me a reason to slow down and just chill!! How's everyone else's reading coming along!!

Ok...I finally finished this Book. Well it only took me a couple days once I started reading it. All I can say is EJD really outdid himself in the first half of this book. There was so much happening...it was only the first chapter of the book, and you felt like you knew everything you needed to know about the main characters. The second half was a little slow...seemed to have gotten bogged down in some of the story lines but it was still a lot happening. Considering how much was going on, I was a little disappointed by the ending. I suspected a big climatic ending, but that did not happen. I still would have to say that this book was a very good read. Meet me over at the discussion board for more thoughts.
